Option 1: The Cat Cocos ferry
The Cat Cocos catamaran runs between Victoria (Mahé) and Baie Ste Anne (Praslin) several times a day — typically three departures in each direction, more in high season. The crossing takes about 1 hour 15 minutes.
Tickets start at roughly €56 one-way for an adult in economy (children travel cheaper), rising to around €77 for the business lounge on the upper deck. Book at least a day ahead in July–August and around Christmas — boats do sell out. You can buy online or at the jetty office in Victoria.
What it's like: the boat is big, air-conditioned and stable in calm season. Between May and September the southeast trade winds can make the crossing rolly — if you're prone to seasickness, sit low and central, near the waterline, and consider a tablet 30 minutes before departure. Luggage allowances are generous (a suitcase and hand luggage per person is standard), which is why families with lots of bags usually pick the boat.
Getting to the ferry: the Victoria jetty is about 15 minutes by taxi from Seychelles International Airport (SEZ). If you land in the morning, an afternoon ferry is comfortable; a tight same-hour connection is risky if your flight is late.
Option 2: The flight
Air Seychelles flies the Mahé–Praslin hop many times a day in a small Twin Otter. Airborne time is about 15 minutes — one of the world's shortest scheduled flights, and the views over the reefs are spectacular.
It's the right choice when you value time over money: fares are usually noticeably higher than the ferry, luggage limits are stricter (small aircraft), and in peak season seats go early. The domestic terminal is a two-minute walk from international arrivals, so it's also the smoothest same-day connection if your long-haul lands on time.

Arriving on Praslin: have the car ready
Here's the part most visitors only figure out on day two: Praslin's buses are infrequent and taxis are expensive, and your hotel is likely 15–30 minutes from where you land.
- Coming by ferry? You arrive at Baie Ste Anne jetty. We can have your rental car waiting right at the jetty parking — you walk off the boat, sign, and drive to your hotel.
- Coming by plane? You land at Praslin Airport (PRI) near Grand Anse. Same deal — the car meets you at the airport. See our Praslin Airport car rental page.
Most cars on the island go for from about €40–70 per day, many without a deposit and without a credit card — pay when you pick it up. Browse what's available for your dates on the main page.
FAQ
How long is the ferry from Mahé to Praslin?
About 1 hour 15 minutes on the Cat Cocos catamaran, jetty to jetty.
How much does the Mahé–Praslin ferry cost?
From roughly €56 one-way per adult in economy; children pay less. Prices and schedules change seasonally, so check when booking.
Can I bring my rental car from Mahé to Praslin on the ferry?
No — the passenger ferry doesn't take tourist vehicles, and rental companies don't allow it. Rent separately on each island; it's cheaper than it sounds because you only pay for the days you actually drive.
Is it worth flying instead of taking the ferry?
If your international flight connects the same day, or you're travelling light in the windy season (May–September), yes. Otherwise the ferry gives you more luggage room for less money.
